Congenital microphakia describes an abnormally small lens. This condition results from abnormal embryonic differentiation and frequently occurs in combination with spherophakia (a spherically shaped lens). Other potential abnormalities include lentiglobus (a globoid shaped lens), lenticonus (a cone shaped lens), lenticular subluxation and/or cataracts. Affected animals may additionally develop glaucoma. Commonly affected breeds include the Beagle, Doberman pincher & Miniature Schnauzer & Burmese.
