The potential presence of foreign material should always be considered when evaluating a painful eye. Foreign material is commonly plant-based in origin.
Appropriate treatment comprises the removal of foreign material. Care should be taken to ensure complete removal, to prevent the loss of biologic material into the anterior chamber (which may lead to endophthalmitis) and also to medically manage and/or tectonically repair any defects, which remain following foreign body removal.
